2018 Recap: The real estate market follows consumer confidence. When confidence is high the market is good. In 2018, consumer confidence was flat and so was the market. This flat market resulted in a 12% decreases in the Northern Virginia markets we work in. One market that got hit the hardest, new home sales in Vienna, Virginia. Sales for new homes are down 41% and was the biggest drop in the NOVA area. McLean, Oakton, Clifton, Ashburn and Falls Church all had double digit losses. Why was consumer confidence off even with unemployment down? “Politics had everyone shaken up with too much negativity.” – Casey Samson
